Capricia is a classic 1986 Alden Cutter designed by John Alden and the Alden Design Company known for many winners of the Transatlantic and Bermuda races as well as the schooner “If and When” commissioned by Colonel George S. Patton and built by boatbuilder F.F. Pendleton in Wiscasset, Maine.

It is my pleasure to provide you with the exceptional experience of sailing on the Maine coast, known widely as one of the most enchanting and challenging cruising grounds on earth.  The Maine coast will offer you a wide range of weather; from blustery westerlies to steady southerlies; from crisp cool days to humid warm ones; from brilliant sun to its well-known pea soup fog.

Whatever the conditions and wherever we go, I will endeavor to make this experience a memorable and satisfying one.

CaptainDave King

From a very young age, Captain Dave has been passionate about sailing, in fact, just about everything about the water.  He has been the captain of his own boats starting since he was six years old with his 7’ wooden rowboat, a very aged classic reportedly it weighed in at about one ton…  As a youth he sailed the waters of Lake Winnipesaukee, racing in Sailfish Regattas, day sailing the family 14’ Oday Javelin, and exploring the Abaco Sea, Bahamas in “Downwind” a 36’ Allied Seabreeze.

After finishing school, Captain Dave lovingly restored “Vida Mia” a classic 1942 31’ Friendship Sloop and his passion emerged for his skills as a sailor and a shipwright.  Vida Mia took him throughout the New England coast including the 1976 Tall Ships Parade in Boston harbor to quietly explore Downeast Maine, including well east of Schoodic Point.

Most recently, Captain Dave has owned and restored “Querencia”, classic 44’ Alden Cutter and is now finishing up an extensive restoration and upgrade of “Capricia”, a 54 Alden Cutter.

Mr. King holds a USCG 100 ton, Master Captain’s License, an MEd degree in Experiential Education, was a Watch Officer and Sailing Instructor for Hurricane Island Outward Bound School, and has accumulated over 1,300 days at sea.
